A MAJOR project to improve Johnstone’s rail infrastructure has been completed.

Engineers spent three days renewing 1.5km of track through Milliken Park station.

More than 6,000 tons of ballast and over 2,000 new sleepers were installed as old track was replaced.

Further south, near Dalry, work was carried out on a key junction to refurbish several sets of points – rails which move to transfer trains from one line of track to another.

The combined cost for the improvements at Milliken Park and Dalry was more than £1million.
