THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for a delivery driver who suffered horrific injuries after he was struck by a BMW while doing his rounds.

Ryan MacDonald, 34, was working for courier firm DPD in High Barholm, Kilbarchan, when the incident took place.

He was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where it was discovered he had suffered broken bones in his face, a fractured eye socket and a serious shoulder injury.

A photo of Ryan’s facial wounds, taken at his hospital bedside, has since been posted on social media, along with a message about the incident to update his family and friends.

He said: “I was struck by a car doing my work. I have a large cut to the front and back of my head, my eye socket is fractured, my shoulder is broken and I have two fractures in my face.

“Thanks to everyone for the well wishes.”

The incident, which took place at around 3.10pm on Thursday, also leaves self-employed Ryan with a financial headache, as he is unlikely to be able to return to work for some time.

However, a GoFundMe page set up by friend and colleague Robyn Soutar to support Ryan and his family had raised around £2,000 by yesterday afternoon – well beyond its £250 target.

Stephen Linnen, general manager at DPD’s Glasgow base, told The Gazette: “We were very sad to hear of Ryan’s unfortunate accident and have been in contact with his family several times whilst he has been in hospital.

“We wish him a quick recovery and look forward to welcoming Ryan back once he’s fully recovered from his injuries.”

Police have said their investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A spokesperson added: “At around 3.10pm on Thursday, a 34-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a BMW car in High Barholm, Kilbarchan.

“He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where he was treated and has since been discharged.

“No other people were injured as a result of the crash.”
