A RENFREW mum has won a feast of delicious meat for her street to celebrate a strong sense of community that has grown during the coronavirus lockdown.

Lidiya Joseph, 34, has been helping elderly residents and those shielding in King George Court with their grocery shopping, as well as delivering baked goods to neighbours.

In recognition of her community spirit, Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) awarded her with a street party kit of Scotch Lamb barbecue, with locally sourced ingredients from local butcher Hugh Black & Sons.

Lidiya said that she had made the tasty baked goods such as cakes, bread and truffles to brighten up the lives of her neighbours during the pandemic.

“During the lockdown, I’ve had much more time to bake,” she told The Gazette.

“I just wanted to cheer people up and we’ve also been getting home cooked meals from other families, so it’s really good to have this
strong feeling of neighbourliness.

“Before lockdown, I didn’t have time to get to know many of them but now I see them much more often because I’m working from home.

“I think the pandemic brought the whole community closer than ever and I plan to hold a street party for my neighbours once social distancing guidelines have eased further.”

Lesley Cameron, director of Marketing and Communications for Quality Meat
Scotland, said: “We know that communities are the
lifeblood of the nation – and this has only been highlighted more during lockdown.

“We want to celebrate the unsung everyday heroes, including the residents of King George Court that came together to support one another during the pandemic. There’s no better way to celebrate than by getting out the barbecue.

“A huge congratulations to Lidiya and her neighbours who are all truly deserving winners of the socially distant street party.”

The street party kits included all the ingredients to create fresh and seasonal Scotch Lamb PGI and Tzatziki Pittas, with the full recipe available at www.scotchkitchen.com/recipe/scotch-lamb-and-tzatziki-pitta/.
