A LIFE-SAVING piece of medical kit has been given to a Johnstone-based football club.
Thorn Athletic recently received a defibrillator through a new scheme set up by the Scottish Football Partnership Trust (SFPT) and the Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust (KFCT).
Their new funding strand will help safeguard users at Thorn Athletic Sports Academy and 11 other community football clubs in Scotland.
With many grassroots community football clubs and organisations becoming important service and facility providers throughout the country, the SFPT and the KFCT have been assisting with protecting the health and wellbeing of players, coaches, parents, grandparents and other members of the wider community who attend these facilities on a weekly basis.
The vital device will be accessible to everyone who uses the new sports hub in Johnstone.
Mark McGee, chairperson of the Thorn Athletic Community Trust, told The Gazette: “At present, our club has around 300 members who regularly visit our facility which hosts a variety of football activity including training evenings, and league and cup matches which our various teams compete in at a variety of levels.
“When you add on family members and other casual users we have a regular weekly footfall of over 900 members of our community which this scheme will help to protect should the need ever arise.
“We are grateful to the SFPT and the KFCT for supporting our club and our community.”
