A MAN and a woman were taken to hospital after a silver Ford Focus crashed into a tree in Johnstone.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Auchenlodment Road at around 11pm on Monday.

The 21-year-old driver was found by ambulance services lying next to the extensively damaged car, while firefighters had to cut open the vehicle to release the 19-year-old passenger.

The couple were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where they both received treatment for their injuries.

The road was closed for a short period of time following the crash and police enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing.

Witnesses and anyone else who has information are asked to call officers on 101, quoting incident number 3927 of September 7.
