A MAN has been charged with vandalism and breach of the peace after two cars were targeted in Renfrewshire last night.

At around 9pm, police received a report of several men using wrenches to damage the windscreen of a Volkswagen Polo parked in Auchenlodment Road, Johnstone.

Officers were then alerted about a disturbance in Gleniffer Crescent, Elderslie, at around 11.15pm.

The 53-year-old owner of a Kia Sportage claimed three men had significantly damaged her car there by hitting it with large objects.

While carrying out enquiries into the second incident, a suspect was identified by police and traced to Auchenlodment Road in the early hours of this morning.

He was taken into custody and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

Police have said enquiries to identify and trace the other men involved in the Gleniffer Crescent incident are ongoing.

Allan O’Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: “If anyone has information about these men or has seen them in a silver Honda during these incidents, please get in touch with us.”
