A pensioner has been left with a "life-changing" injury after being attacked in the city centre at the weekend.
The 68-year-old man was standing at a bus stop on Jamacia Street at around 10.30pm having enjoyed a night out before he was violently assaulted by a younger man.
The victim was rushed to hospital where he was treated for an injury that medical staff describe as "life-changing".
Police are treating the incident as "unprovoked" as they have launched an urgent witness appeal in a bid to trace those responsible.
Detective Constable Allyson Ferguson at Stewart Street Police Office said: “This appears to have been a totally unprovoked attack on a man waiting on his bus home after a night out.
"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this attack, or who has any information which could help in the investigation to call us on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 1999 of 4 October.”
