A MAJOR leisure complex in Renfrewshire has been saved from administration.

The future of the Soar development at Braehead, in Renfrew, had been in doubt after its owners intu called in administrators at the end of June.

However, the complex – formerly known as Xscape – will continue to operate after a takeover by Debenture PLC was completed.

Soar is a popular destination for people from across Renfrewshire and beyond, thanks to its real snow ski slope, cinema, shopping and restaurant facilities.

Debenture has appointed asset and property management company MAPP to oversee the site, while specialist investment managers APAM will assume asset management responsibilities.

The complex will continue to operate under the Soar branding ahead of a revamp and a new name before the end of this year.

Plans are in place to change the logo and external signage, with a new website for the venue also in the pipeline.

In a joint statement, MAPP chief executive Nigel Mapp and Simon Cooke, executive director at APAM, said: “The onsite team at Soar is outstanding and we are working with them to grow the team.

"Together, we’ll ensure that many, many more fun and memorable experiences are had at Scotland’s unique entertainment destination.”

There had been fears for the future of intu's shopping mall at Braehead after the firm was unable to reach an agreement in financial restructuring talks with its lenders.

However, the mall has remained open under administrators KPMG.

Jim Tucker, of KPMG, said: "The orderly migration of intu's centres to new management continues at pace, despite their challenges, with further transitions set to conclude in the coming days.

"We thank the team at Soar for their support during the administration process and wish them well for the future."
