POLICE are appealing for information after two wheelie bins were stolen and set alight in Houston.

Residents spotted two young men taking the bins from outside their home in Brackendene at around 9.45pm on Thursday.

The men then took the bins into nearby woods and smoke was soon seen billowing into the sky.

A crew from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the flames.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who has information that can help with their investigation.

Chief Inspector Jim Cast, area commander for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, said: “We recognise that this is an ongoing problem throughout Renfrewshire, with bins being set on fire in different locations.

“We would ask those in the local community to get in touch if they have any information about these young men so we can prevent future incidents like this.”
