TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Renfrewshire couple who died in a horror road crash.
David and Alison Campbell were travelling a white BMW1 series that collided with a crash barrier and burst into flames on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway in Glasgow at around 2.40pm on Sunday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, near to Junction 17, at Charing Cross, but the car was well ablaze by the time they arrived and the married Paisley couple were later declared dead at the scene.
Hundreds of people have now offered their condolences to friends and family of David, 54, and Alison, 51, on social media.
It is understood that David was a popular member of Paisley Golf Club, while Alison had been a teacher in Barrhead for more than 20 years, who was well liked by children and colleagues alike.
An investigation into the fatal crash is continuing.
Sergeant John Bradford, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with David and Alison’s family at this sad time.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information that could assist with our enquires to get in touch.”
