A NEW Zealand author whose latest book has been described as ‘Mad Max meets Terry Pratchett’ says his writing career has its roots in his Glasgow childhood.
Duncan P Pacey grew up on the south side of the city, in Newton Mearns.
He moved to Auckland to study film-making at the New Zealand Film and Television School in 2003.
“Glasgow for me was all about family,” he recalls.
“I spent most of my time between home, school – Crookfur Primary – and my gran’s house in Ralston.
“I remember sitting in the upstairs room, scribbling short stories on bits of paper as my brothers and cousins played Nintendo.
“To us five kids, that room was a sanctuary.”
Duncan’s latest book, Sievert and Gray, Detectors, is set in a post-apocalyptic nightmare of a city, where the title characters join together in a battle to bring a killer to justice.
Described as ‘a hilarious mystery in a brutal world’, the book is already receiving rave reviews from fans of sci fi, fantasy and cult fiction.
