A MAN has been charged with breach of the peace after police were called to a disturbance at a post office in Johnstone.

It is claimed he was brandishing a knife as he pursued another man into the Walkinshaw Street branch at around 12.40pm on Wednesday.

The suspect reportedly began shouting abuse at the man before a member of the public intervened.

Staff at the post office contacted the police, who promptly arrived and arrested the suspect nearby.

Officers said they found no trace of a knife or weapon.

The suspect was later released on an undertaking and is due to appear in court at a later date.
