A FURIOUS mum has hit out at thugs who have been aiming fireworks at kids playing in Erskine.

Nadia Easdon told how the teenage gang let off a rocket towards a group of girls as they walked through an underpass near Rashielea Primary School.

On the same night, police were alerted to an incident at a pitch at Park Mains High, where children were targeted while playing football.

Nadia, 33, fears youngsters, including her 11-year-old daughter Emma O’Donnell, could end up seriously injured by such reckless behaviour.

She told The Gazette: “This group was seen lighting a firework and throwing it into the underpass before running away. It nearly hit my daughter’s friends as they were coming round to see her. They got the fright of their life.

“The people who did this clearly have no regard for their own safety, never mind anyone else’s. I’m a nurse and know full well the injuries that can be caused by fireworks.

“There are 14-year-old kids walking about with rockets. Clearly, someone is supplying them. Also, where are they getting the money?”

Other parents in Erskine have taken to social media to slam the “shocking and dangerous” behaviour taking place.

Karen Da Silva wrote on Facebook about being left “absolutely raging” by the attack on kids at the pitch at Park Mains High.

She added: “My eight-year-old was playing football and those fireworks that were thrown landed right beside them.

“They had absolutely no care in the world about what they were doing and could seriously have hurt any of those kids.”

Sam Mullin, chair of Erskine Community Council, called for a stronger police presence to deter the dangerous use of fireworks.

He said: “People have spoken to me about these fireworks and the issues they have been causing. I’d like to think people have reported this to police and there will be a bit more vigilance from police in the area.

“It’s also about being responsible when you are selling these things. Maybe someone older is buying them.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed officers had received reports of youths setting off fireworks in the Park Mains area.

She added: “Officers attended and there was no trace of youths in the area.”
