POLICE are probing a spate of car thefts in Renfrewshire that are believed to be linked.

A black Audi A3 was securely parked in Bargarron Drive, Paisley, at around 10pm on Monday but the 37-year-old owner discovered it had been pinched at around 6.20am the following morning.

Then, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, two heavy-set men were seen by members of the public breaking into a black Ford Fiesta parked in Baird Drive, Erskine.

After failing to drive off in the vehicle, the two suspects fled in a black Audi A3.

Police said part of the dashboard beneath the steering wheel of the targeted vehicle had been pulled off by the thieves.

A blue Ford Fiesta was then stolen from Gledstane Road, Bishopton, sometime between 11pm on Thursday and 5am the next morning.

Inspector Allan O'Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we are looking into the possible links between these three incidents.

"If anybody has information about any of these incidents, please get in touch with us."

Anyone who can help is asked to call the police on 101.
