A HORSE trapped in a Renfrewshire river was rescued this morning by firefighters.

Two water rescue teams from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) rushed to the scene in Ben More, Paisley, after receiving a report of the animal being stuck in the White Cart Water. 

On arrival, crews successfully removed the horse - which had been unable to traverse the underwater hazards - from the river.

The animal was found to have no injuries as a result of the incident.

An image of the horse trapped in the river had been shared across social media in an attempt to locate its owner.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We were alerted at 10.47am on Friday, November 13, to reports of a horse stuck within the White Cart River, Ben More, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

"Operations Control mobilised two water rescue teams and two appliances to the scene.

"Firefighters removed the horse from the water and the animal was fit and well.

"Crews left the scene and there were no reported casualties."
