POLICE have launched an investigation after hundreds of pounds was stolen from a pensioner’s home in Renfrew.

The 77-year-old victim was approached by a man in the town's High Street at around 1.15pm on Monday, December 14.

The fraudster told the elderly woman he was a plumber and needed access to her property.

He then walked into her home without permission and without displaying any identification.

The suspect checked each room before the pensioner told him she was going to call the police, at which point he fled.

Several days later, the victim discovered that £200 in cash was missing from her bedroom.

The suspect is described as in his 40s and well-built. At the time, he was wearing a black jacket that featured the words 'Glasgow Fun Run.'

Inspector Allan O’Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "If you have seen anyone acting suspiciously or going door-to-door around this time, please get in touch with us."

Anyone who can help is asked to call the police on 101.
