A JOHNSTONE mum who scooped a bumper Lottery win has spread some festive cheer by delivering sack-loads of cards and treats to isolated elderly and vulnerable people.

Sandra Devine, who banked £300,000 from a scratchcard last month, took inspiration from her postman husband Martin as she personally delivered the Christmas goodies.

The 36-year-old was joined by other Lottery winners from Scotland as she wrote cards and packed Christmas puddings for delivery to people across Glasgow.

Mum-of-three Sandra said she was happy to lend her support to Glasgow’s Golden Generation, which tackles loneliness among older adults by offering services such as virtual events and providing meals to those who are isolated from loved ones.

“Christmas is my favourite time of year and, while my family is looking forward to celebrating together, there are many elderly and vulnerable people around who will be spending it on their own,” said Sandra, who lives in Johnstone Castle.

“I hope our personalised cards put a smile on some faces and, most importantly, let them know that we are thinking of them over the festive period.

“It was a real pleasure to be involved, not only writing cards and packing Christmas puddings but also being able to deliver them in person.

“Glasgow’s Golden Generation really does a fantastic job of supporting vulnerable people in the community, making sure that no-one feels alone.”

Last month, Sandra told The Gazette how her husband Martin unknowingly came home with the top National Lottery scratchcard prize after returning from the Nisa store in Hazel Avenue.

The part-time youth worker tried her luck with one of the ‘wee scratchys,’ as the couple call them, and was stunned to learn she had matched 12 words on the Cashword Bonus game.

Initially, she thought she had won £100, while Martin believed their prize was £1,000 – but they were both left screaming with joy after they called Lottery operators Camelot to be told they had, in fact, won the whopping £300,000 top prize.
