A JOHNSTONE school has been busy delivering Christmas cards to community groups.

Pupils of all ages at Thorn Primary decided to spread some festive cheer by designing their own greeting cards to send to local businesses, care homes and key workers.

Primary one classes sent their cards to Bield Housing Association and, in return, received some sweets.

Meanwhile, older people who receive shopping supplies courtesy of the Food Train charity were pleasantly surprised to find cards from primary two pupils tucked in with their deliveries.

And residents at Ranfurly Care Home were delighted to receive seasons greetings from primary three pupils.

Cards from the primary 4a class went to St Vincent’s Hospice, while primary 4b gave their cards to key workers, including police officers and firefighters.

Bosses at Asda’s Phoenix Retail Park store delivered sweets for the entire school, while the Royal Engineers sent pencil cases for pupils in the 4b class.

Primary five pupils sent cards to older people via the I Am Me Scotland Christmas competition and primary six and seven pupils sent cards to Farrier Court and Walkinshaw Street residents.

Stephanie Hart, Thorn Primary headteacher, said: “The intention was to raise Christmas cheer and for our community to know we care but to receive such grateful feedback has emphasised to our children just how important it is to look after people in our communities.

“I think the feedback will inspire them."
