A CREEP who exposed himself to a man who was visiting his shop in Johnstone has been fined £500.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how 51-year-old Alexander McLeod flashed his genitals at the horrified victim at Johnstone Art & Framing on November 5, 2019.

The man, who can’t be named for legal reasons, had visited the High Street shop to ask if he could put up a poster on the door.

McLeod agreed to the request and then asked the man to watch the shop for him.

In the moments that followed, the victim spotted McLeod at the back of the store with his trousers around his ankles and could see he was exposing himself.

McLeod then asked the man if he wanted to perform a sex act on him.

The victim responded by telling him: “I’m not gay, mate.”

He then left the store and alerted a friend.

When the pair went to the shop to challenge McLeod about what had happened, he claimed he had been adjusting himself and that his genitals had fallen out of his underwear by accident.

McLeod then called his partner to inform him that men were causing problems in the shop.

That led to the police being alerted but, after an investigation was carried out, officers arrested McLeod.

He denied any wrongdoing but was found guilty of breaching  the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 after a trial took place.

McLeod, formerly of Kirkintilloch and now of Troon, was convicted of intentionally exposing his genitals “in a sexual manner” to the man “with the intention that he would see them,” as well as groping himself and making a sexual remark.

Sentence had been deferred for background reports and McLeod returned to court last week to learn his fate.

Sheriff David Pender imposed the fine after being told a Community Payback Order would not be suitable as McLeod was unable to carry out unpaid work.
