A WOMAN accused of murdering a man in Erskine on New Year's Day is set to go on trial.

Stephanie Bowie, 27, is charged with killing 21-year-old Darren Russell in the town's Park Drive.

It is alleged that she stabbed Mr Russell, who was known to his friends as Dazza, on the body with a knife or similar bladed item.

Yesterday, Bowie, of Erskine, made her second appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with the case.

She also faces a charge of assaulting Mr Russell "on an occasion prior to and distinct from" the alleged murder.

It is claimed that, along with 18-year-old Mark Bowie, she attacked Mr Russell near Barsail Primary School, punching and kicking him on the head and body.

Mark Bowie, also of Erskine, is further charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by hiding evidence.

It is alleged that he hid a jacket belonging to Stephanie Bowie under a bed, "knowing that the same had been worn by her when she assaulted Darren Russell, now deceased, with a knife and did murder him."

The charge states he did so in an attempt to conceal the jacket from the authorities.

Neither accused made any plea to the charges against them and both were fully committed for trial.
