A BUSY slip road in Renfrewshire is set to be closed this weekend for essential maintenance.

The work will take place on the northbound on-slip road of the A898 at Erskine Bridge from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday, February 1.

Two diversion routes will be in operation for motorway and non-motorway traffic.

Motorway traffic travelling northbound will be diverted to join the southbound M898 and will follow signage for “M8 Paisley Airports”.

Vehicles will join the M8 at Junction 30 and travel to Junction 29 where it will follow the off-slip to the roundabout and re-join the westbound M8.

From here, traffic will continue to M8 Junction 30 to join the M898 and will then return to the northbound A898.

Non-motorway traffic will travel southbound on the A726 / Southbar Road / Barnsford Road to the St James Interchange and will the follow the A726 Greenock Road travelling east on St James Street / Niddry Street and south on Renfrew Road.

From here, vehicles will continue east on the A761 Glasgow Road / Paisley Road West and continue east on the A8 Kingston Street before travelling north of the King George V Bridge.

Traffic will then travel west on the A814 Broomielaw before heading north on the A804 North Street to join the A82 Great Western Road at Charing Cross.

Traffic will travel west on the A82 until the junction with the A898 at the north end of the Erskine Bridge.

It is claimed that this scheme, with a value of £200,000, will benefit around 2,200 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in future.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
