POLICE are hunting a thug who threw a broken wine bottle at staff in Elderslie Post Office.

The yob had been trying to steal the bottle from the Main Road branch at around 12.20pm on Saturday.

However, he dropped it when challenged by the 52-year-old shopkeeper.

After it smashed on the floor, the man picked up the neck of the bottle and threw it in the direction of the shopkeeper and a 17-year-old employee before fleeing the scene.

Police said further enquiries revealed he later stole a bottle of wine from the nearby Nisa Local convenience store, also in Main Road.

He is described as white, in his late 20s, 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build, with short, dark brown hair. At the time, he was wearing a grey Adidas tracksuit and a lighter grey top.

Inspector Allan O’Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "If anyone has seen this man running from either shop or in the local area around this time, please get in touch."

Anyone who can help the police with their investigation is asked to call officers on 101.
