SCORES of residents in Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch have been left without water today.

Scottish Water engineers have now repaired a frozen valve after many properties in Kilbarchan experienced an interruption to their supplies this morning.

Customers in Lochwinnoch are also experiencing disruption to their normal water supply following a burst on a water main earlier today.

Properties in the area are currently experiencing a loss of normal water supply, low water pressure or discoloured water following the burst, which occurred on a 12 inch main near Polmillan Bridge on the B786.

The Gazette:

It is now being isolated to enable the repair to take place, with engineers working to restore normal supplies to affected properties as quickly as possible.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: "Scottish Water operatives are excavating the pipe in order for the repair to be undertaken. Temporary two-way traffic lights are in operation on the B786, close to Polmillan Bridge, to ensure the work can be carried out safely.

"We apologise to road users for any delays and thank them for their patience and understanding while these emergency works are ongoing.

The Gazette:

"Water supplies are now restoring to customers in the Kilbarchan area of Johnstone following an interruption to supplies earlier this morning.

"Scottish Water operatives attended and identified the cause as a frozen valve on the local network. This has now been fixed and customers are now beginning to come back into supply. However, depending on where customers are on our network, this might take longer for some.

"Following a disturbance to normal water supplies, it’s normal that customers might experience low pressure/discoloured water. If that’s the case then they should run their cold water kitchen tap until it clears.

"Like all essential public service providers, the weather is certainly making our job more difficult but we are doing absolutely everything possible to ensure normal supplies are maintained wherever we can.

"Staff the length and breadth of the country are working around the clock in challenging weather conditions to keep water supplies to customers running and our waste water network operating normally."

The disruption follows reports of residents being left without water yesterday in the PA5 area of Johnstone, where repairs have now been completed.
