A BURST pipe that left scores of Lochwinnoch residents without water has now been repaired.

Scottish Water engineers have fixed a 12 inch water main on the B786, near Polmillan Bridge, which burst on Friday morning, resulting in water supply disruption for many villagers.

The water network is now recharging and all affected residents were expected to come back into supply over the course of Friday evening.

Temporary two-way traffic lights remain in place on the road, which has enabled the site team to excavate and complete the essential repair safely.

Over the course of the day, tankers brought extra drinking water into the area by road in an effort to restore and maintain as many supplies as possible via the local water network.

They will continue working to support the restoration of supplies and the return of the network to normal operation.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to customers who have experienced disruption to their water supply today as a result of this burst.  We appreciate the patience and support of the local community and other road users while our site team has been working to complete repairs quickly in challenging conditions.

“Homes and businesses where supply has not been restored via the use of tankers earlier in the day should now see their service gradually return to normal. We are continuing to monitor and support the network’s recovery, with resources in the area to provide extra support to customers if required.”

Residents may experience discoloured or cloudy water after their supply returns. If this occurs, they are advised to run their cold kitchen tap at half pressure until the water runs clear.
