A WARNING has been issued about phone scams following reports of fraudsters targeting elderly people in Renfrewshire.

It is understood older residents in Elderslie and Renfrew have recently been contacted by scammers claiming to work for Virgin Media.

The telecom firm has confirmed it will never call customers and ask for their bank details.

A spokesperson added: “Virgin Media takes the security of its customers very seriously and provides them with a range of information on our website on how they can help protect themselves from fraudulent calls.

“We also take additional measures for our vulnerable customers.

“If customers receive such calls, we urge them to not give any details and report the incident to Action Fraud.”
