A MAN and a woman have been charged with breach of the peace after police were called to a disturbance in Renfrew.

Officers went to Jessiman Square at around 1.15pm on Tuesday to investigate reports of a heated argument between residents from two households.

It is claimed that a large gathering of people soon became involved in the dispute, with both parties issuing threats and shouting abuse at each other.

More officers were brought in to help as the large group also reportedly became hostile towards police.

During the incident, a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were taken into custody and later released.

Both are due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.
