HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for the heartbroken family of a dad-of-four who was found dead in Renfrewshire earlier this week.

The body of David Letham, 35, was recovered in woods near Bridge of Weir on Tuesday afternoon, just hours after he was reported missing.

Devastated friends have now taken to JustGiving to raise funds for the Paisley dad's family.

Jade Gilchrist, who started the fundraiser yesterday, wrote: "I have set this cause up to help David Letham's family.

"David was the life and soul of the party, you would always see David with the biggest smile on his face, and would always chat away no matter what.

"David has a loving family, his partner Caroline, son David, twins Lucy and Leah and a newborn Sienna. He loved his family, and family meant everything to David. Also his mum, brothers and sister and extended family are all heartbroken at the news.

"In these sad times, I'm looking to raise money for his family. Any amount is gratefully appreciated."

The JustGiving page has currently raised over £1,800 - well beyond its £1,000 target.

A flood of heartfelt tributes have also been paid by David's friends on the page in response to the tragic news.

He was described as "a beautiful soul" and "a fantastic gent."

One wrote: "One of the most genuine guys and always had a smile on his face."

Another added: "Couldn't have met a nicer guy."

Police had issued a plea for information on the whereabouts of David on Tuesday after he was reported missing from the Foxbar area of Paisley.

Officers confirmed the disappearance was linked to the discovery of a car that was abandoned in a river next to Hattrick Farm, to the north of Bridge of Weir, shortly after 10am.

Later on Tuesday, a police spokesperson told The Gazette: "We can confirm that, around 2.40pm, the body of a man was recovered in woods near Bridge of Weir.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of David Letham has been informed.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but the death is not believed to be suspicious. As with all sudden deaths, a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
