A MAN has been arrested by police following a disturbance in Erskine.

The 23-year-old suspect was reported to officers by two women, both aged 21, who reportedly saw him in possession of a knife in Holms Crescent at around 7.25am on Saturday.

Officers promptly traced and searched the man but no weapon was found.

However, he was charged on suspicion of committing a breach of the peace with a knife, at which point he reportedly began shouting racist abuse at police.

He was then charged with an additional racial breach of the peace and taken into custody.

The suspect is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.
