A NEW confectionery business based in Erskine has pledged to give away tasty treats to disadvantaged children this year.

Scranable will donate various sweets, snacks and soft drinks not readily available in the UK to one lucky youngster each month.

The mystery boxes will be provided to cash-strapped families from Erskine, Inchinnan, Bishopton and Renfrew who have a child celebrating a birthday or other special occasion.

Local residents are being encouraged to nominate sweet-toothed families who deserve some extra cheer this year, with winners being chosen at random.

A spokesperson for Scranable told The Gazette: “While we try our best to keep our prices as low as possible and ensure our customers get the best deals, we understand that, sadly, there are families among us that simply can’t stretch to these kinds of luxuries.

“So once a month, starting from March, we would like to give a £15 mystery box filled with our goodies to a family with a child’s birthday or special occasion coming up, who may otherwise not have been able to enjoy this sort of treat.

“We can also offer to include a personalised card if required, at no cost.

“To get March underway, we’re asking anyone who is in this position or knows of anyone who is in this position to please get in touch.

“It will remain anonymous at all times.”
