STAFF and customers at a Johnstone store have been thanked for donating goods to support those badly hit by the Covid pandemic.

Poundland, in the town’s High Street, has donated around 50 bags containing a mixture of non-perishable food essentials, as well as toiletries, hats and gloves, for homeless and vulnerable people.

The bags were handed to Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow – a new community group that relies solely on public donations to help those in need.

Jamie Ambrose, manager at Poundland Johnstone, told The Gazette: “For us, getting involved was an absolute no-brainer.

“It’s an amazing cause and we will continue to support it as long as we possibly can.

“When customers are at the tills, we ask if they would like to donate any of the stock we have up around the front of the store, which we then put to the side and bag up.

“It is brilliant to be able to support groups who are helping local people at a time like this.”

Graeme Weir, volunteer at Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow, said he has been blown away by the generosity of Johnstone residents.

He added: “It never ceases to amaze me how kind people are.”
