A MAN has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two other men at their Elderslie home.

It is claimed the 23-year-old suspect was under the influence when he approached a house in the village's Main Road at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said a 56-year-old resident tried to stop the man, who claimed he had property inside the house, from entering.

It is alleged the suspect then punched the man on the face and started shouting abuse.

He also reportedly attacked a 19-year-old man who lives there before fleeing the scene.

Police promptly traced the suspect nearby and, while being arrested, he allegedly made homophobic comments towards one of the officers.

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault and breach of the peace.

The older man who was injured suffered swelling to his face but it is understood neither of the two residents needed hospital treatment.

The suspect was subsequently released and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.
