TWO schools in Renfrewshire are filling up their bookshelves, thanks to donations from local businesses.

Pupils at Corseford School, in Johnstone, received a bundle of new books for their library from the Morrisons Foundation, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, to celebrate World Book Day.

Julie Scott, community champion at Morrisons in Johnstone, delivered the books to the school, which cares for children and young people with disabilities.

She told The Gazette: “I’m so proud to be helping kids in my community through this donation of books.

“We are living through challenging times and I hope these stories will give children at Corseford School some enjoyment.”

Erica Dennies, headteacher at Corseford School, added: “Stories give such pleasure to everyone and the bundle of books donated has added a new set of stories that we can all share and enjoy.”

Elsewhere, Rashielea Primary received a book collection worth more than £200 from CALA Homes West.

Youngsters at the Erskine school were delighted to add the new books to their existing library collection.

Rachael Clark, Rashielea Primary headteacher, said: “We would like to thank CALA for the kind book donation to celebrate World Book Day.

“We are extremely grateful to CALA Homes for their support and we look forward to seeing how much the children enjoy their new reading material.”

CALA Homes, whose Gilchrist Gardens development is located close to Rashielea Primary, has collectively donated more than £1,000 of books across the West of Scotland to mark the national day.

Liana Canavan, sales and marketing director at CALA Homes West, added: “CALA has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the local communities in which it builds, and working with local schools is very rewarding, particularly with the schools facing such challenging times over the last year.

“World Book Day is such a fantastic celebration, so we are delighted to be supporting Rashielea Primary School with a new book donation. We hope that their books will make a difference to their library and the learning and education for the children at the school.”
