A DAD has told how his young children have been left traumatised after they were caught up in a horror three-car crash at the weekend.

Christopher Anderson said his blue Renault Megane was stationary at traffic lights when another car ploughed into it from behind and flipped on to its side.

His four-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, who were in the back seats, were later taken to hospital, although they escaped serious injury.

Christopher, who is a mechanic, was left with multiple cuts and bruises, as well as back pain, and has had to be signed off work.

However, he said it is the impact on his children’s mental health that is of greatest concern.

Christopher, 24, told The Gazette: “All that keeps playing over and over in my head is the kids screaming as soon as it happened.

“They don’t stop talking about it and often just start crying even when we’ve not been discussing it, with my son now petrified of being in a car.

“My daughter, who has spina bifida, is constantly complaining of a sore head and back, so we’re also worried how the crash could affect her in the future.

“I’m definitely more paranoid and hesitant now about having the kids in the car.”

The crash took place near the Braehead Tavern pub, between Renfrew and Inchinnan, at 5pm on Saturday.

Christopher, who had been stationary in Greenock Road while he waited for traffic lights to change, said he had no time to react ahead of the collision.

He is now keen to thank bystanders who came to his family’s aid.

“The members of the public who saw the crash did a tremendous amount to help us,” said Christopher, from Inchinnan.

“I’m gutted that I never got the names of the people who were involved, like the woman who helped to get the kids out of the car and take them to safety.”

Police confirmed they received a report of a crash involving three vehicles in Greenock Road on Saturday.

It is claimed that, following the collision, one motorist tried to flee the scene but was caught by officers after a short chase.

The 35-year-old man was charged with a number of driving offences, as well as possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Police said a variety of drugs, believed to have a combined street value of £1,500, have been sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The suspect was later released and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.
