A DYNAMIC dad will attempt to climb 10 mountains in one day to raise funds for research into a cure for diabetes.

Steve Pollock’s target is the massive Mamores range, near Fort William, where all of the summits are more than 3,000 feet high.

His sons Ryan and Austin, aged three and 10, both have type 1 diabetes and need regular insulin shots.

The Renfrew oil rig technician will attempt the marathon feat with close friend and NHS worker Brad Forbes on July 21.

Both men plan to start their hike at 5am and finish by 7pm that night.

All money raised will be divided between the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Renfrew Victoria Youth Football Club, where 38-year-old Steve and Brad, 33, are coaches and their sons are members.

Steve said: “Both causes are very close to our hearts. It’s managing to spur us on to prepare and train properly.

“Brad and I are funding the journey ourselves, paying for hotels, gear and training requirements. Hopefully this goes to show how serious we are about the task and the causes.”

The two friends plan to ramp up their training regime in the coming weeks to make sure they are well prepared for the gruelling challenge.

Steve said: “The ten-mountain climb should be achievable if we put in the proper training over the next few months.

“It will be non-stop, apart from a break for lunch.”

The pair have already raised £1,000 and hope to increase that amount over the coming months.

They will do the multiple climb without any support or back-up team, apart from their wives and children.

All 10 mountains are classified as Munros, as they are more than 3,000 feet high.

Both men have been keen hillwalkers since they were teenagers and got to know each other through the football club.

Anyone who would like to support Steve and Brad’s fundraising efforts can make a donation online HERE.

Steve said they would be interested in all offers of support, not just donations.

Anyone who would like to keep track of their progress can do so via their Mountain’s Peak Facebook Page and YouTube channel.
