A RENFREWSHIRE schoolgirl is dreaming of stardom as she releases her debut single.

Singer-songwriter Sasha Kaloheris, 17, has used her love of music to banish the blues during the coronavirus pandemic.

The talented Gryffe High School pupil has been snapped up by 23 Music Management ahead of the release of new single ‘Bad Days.’

Sasha, from Houston, told The Gazette: “I’ve been singing since I was very young and I was brought up doing musical theatre, whilst performing in a lot of shows.

“I started playing the guitar when I was 14 and that is where I began to write music. That led to me coming up with ideas for melodies.

“I’m influenced by quite a few artists, like Lennon Stella and Holly Humberstone, but I write very differently from them.

“I wrote Bad Days one night while sitting in my bedroom, which is where I’ve written most of my songs. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself because lockdown was a bit of mess.

“I wrote it around August last year, when I was going back to school and I was feeling overwhelmed. We all get like that.

“I lifted up my guitar and, before I knew it, I was singing about how, even though I was feeling overwhelmed, if I do what I love, like playing the guitar and writing down music, it releases the stress and helps me deal with those bad days.”

Sasha has taken inspiration from a number of established performers but is keen to develop her own style of music.

She said: “I’m influenced by quite a few artists, like Lennon Stella and Holly Humberstone, but I write very differently from them.”

Sasha’s impressive vocals and passion for songwriting have earned her the opportunity to grace the stages of iconic Glasgow venues such as the Classic Grand, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and the Barrowlands.

Bad Days will be released on Friday and, to coincide with this, Sasha will be performing an online gig at Room 2, in Glasgow.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” she said. “I’m a bit nervous because I haven’t performed in nearly a year but I’m also excited.”

Bad Days will be available for download on iTunes HERE and on Amazon HERE.
