A NEILSTON schoolgirl went on the march to raise funds for Lapwing Lodge Outdoor Centre.
Ava Mitchell was the youngest volunteer to raise money for the Scouts hub, on the Gleniffer Braes, as part of this year’s Virtual Kiltwalk.
The five-year-old Neilston Primary pupil was joined by her mum Jennifer as they walked from the village to the lodge.
They covered more than seven miles and raised an impressive total of £1,500 in the process.
Jennifer said: “Ava was a very reluctant walker before lockdown but there was nothing else to do during the pandemic.
“My dad, Ava’s grandad, is the warden at Lapwing Lodge and, when she heard about it needing funds to stay afloat, she was really keen to walk.
“We started off at our house in Neilston, with the goal of walking six miles. We looped around pretty much the whole village, then walked up to Lapwing Lodge, over the back roads.
“Ava was brilliant. It took us about two and a bit hours and she absolutely loved it.”
