POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in a Johnstone street.

Officers received reports about an injured man in George Street at around 4pm on Thursday.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old man who was bleeding.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, for treatment.

Inspector Damian Kane, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "If anyone saw this man being assaulted in or around George Street, please get in touch."

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call officers on 101.
