NATURE lovers in Lochwinnoch are being invited to submit records of their local wildlife this weekend.

It is hoped that the Bioblitz event, organised by local partnership project Garnock Connections, will encourage villagers to get closer to nature to mark Biodiversity Day on Saturday.

Submissions from the event will be added to a nationwide database used by conservation organisations to protect and preserve natural heritage.

Miriam Lord, wildlife recording assistant at Garnock Connections, said: “A lot of people don’t realise that their wildlife records really make a difference.

“Bioblitz events are a great way of getting started with recording and making a real impact for nature – whether you’re reporting the blackbird in your garden or the dolphins offshore, every record counts.”

By following Garnock Connections’ social media channels, participants will be able to view live updates from the team and discover wildlife-watching ‘top tips’ and blogs written by local naturalists.

Participants will also be invited to submit photographs or videos of their day, which will be memorialised in a digital collage and video celebrating people’s connection with nature on Biodiversity Day.
