A POLICE probe was launched after a late-night rammy in a Renfrewshire village.

Officers were called to the scene in Crosslee, near Houston, at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

One man is said to have been dragged to the ground and kicked in the head.

By the time officers arrived, most of the crowd had dispersed and there were no reports of injuries.

Groups of youths in their late teens and early 20s were involved in the clash near The River Inn, at the junction of Whirlie Way and Houston Road.

A larger group of up to 30 people is then said to have gathered to watch the incident.

It was reported that one gang had been waiting in cars outside the pub before ambushing a second group as they left the premises.

A police spokesman said: "There was a large group of bystanders and there was concern that might escalate.

"The incident didn't involve any weapons."
