Marel Harper, principal teacher at Wallace Primary, said staff have encouraged pupils to walk to school as often as possible during May.

She added: “We’re trying to promote active journeys to school, mainly walking. Not all of the children can walk all the way, so we asked them to ‘park and stride’ instead.

“Renfrewshire schools have done well in the challenge and Wallace Primary has been at the top of the leaderboard.

“It has also been Walk To School Week, with each day revolving around a different superhero that Living Streets has created.

“Friday’s theme was Super Sustainable as, by leaving the car at home, you can reduce the amount of traffic and pollution around schools.

“To further promote active journeys, we thought it would be great for our pupils to dress up as superheroes.”
