THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for the heartbroken family of a Renfrewshire man who died after a cliff jumping accident in Portugal.

Andy Kerr, from Paisley, was on holiday with his girlfriend Karolina Markevica when tragedy struck on Friday.

His final post on Facebook was four days earlier after enjoying a family night out at Ingliston Country Club and Hotel in Bishopton.

Since Sunday morning, donations have poured in to a JustGiving page that is raising money to pay for Andy's funeral and repatriation costs.

Karolina, who started the fundraiser, wrote: "Andy was the love of my life, best friend, my rock.

"Andy dedicated his life to helping and motivating the others to achieve their best, to improve their lifestyle, to become successful.

"Charming, independent, energetic and compassionate, Andy was and will be our mentor, who could have changed the world with just an idea, and he did change the world for lots of people, including myself.

"We are all devastated by Andy’s loss and will need to get Andy back to the United Kingdom.

"We want to give Andy the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes."

The exact circumstances of his death, or where it happened, have not yet emerged.

A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Portugal.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

The GoFundMe page has already raised over £18,000 – well beyond its £15,000 target.

A flood of heartfelt tributes were paid by Andy's friends on social media in response to the tragic news.

Paula Holding wrote: "I still can’t believe this is real. All my love and thoughts with everyone who loves you, especially your family.

"You touched so many souls on this earth, even my kids. You taught me so much, I will really miss you."

Pro-Life Fitness Centre gym, in New Sneddon Street, Paisley, donated £500 to the JustGiving page and described Andy's death as a "tragic and sad loss."

A spokesperson for the gym added: "A lovely young man, full of life and very popular around the gym. Thinking of all his loved ones at this sad time."
