Renfrewshire has recorded a seventh consecutive week without a death from Covid-19.

Latest figures released by the National Records of Scotland, for the week ending June 20, show the total number of fatalities in the area since the pandemic began more than a year ago remains at 525.

Nine of Scotland's 32 council areas had a Covid death last week.

There were four fatalities in Glasgow City, two in Perth and Kinross and one in each of Dundee City, Falkirk, Highland, Midlothian, South Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.

As of June 20, 10,150 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Pete Whitehouse, director of statistical services at NRS, said: “The latest figures show that last week there were 13 deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate (in Scotland).

“Three deaths were aged under 65, two were aged 65-74, and eight were over 75.

"Five were female and eight were male.

“Ten deaths occurred in hospitals, one occurred in a care home, and two deaths were at home or in a non-institutional setting.”

Renfrewshire is currently in Level 2 of the Scottish Government's coronavirus restrictions.

Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday that the nation's planned easing of lockdown on June 28 will be delayed until July 19 at the earliest.

In the original plan for easing lockdown, the entire country was meant to move to level 0, the Scottish Government's lowest level of restrictions, on June 28.

However, due to a rise in Covid cases around the country as the Delta variant surges through the UK, Scotland will now have to wait until July 19 for further easing of restrictions.
