You’ve never seen colour run so fast as toddlers, children and even a grandpa took part in a fun race with a difference.

The Colour Run was staged at the ON-X sports centre, in Linwood, as part of Renfrewshire Leisure’s Get Into Summer activities programme.

More than 150 people took part in the event, which saw them showered with powdered paint as they tackled a 1km course.

The Renfrewshire Leisure Active Schools team made sure everyone looked like a rainbow at the end of the race as they threw red, yellow, pink, blue, purple, orange and green paint over the runners.

Ross Toole took his sons Rhuari and Finn along, with a good time had by all.

“The Active Schools team organised a fantastic event that combined fitness and fun,” said Ross.

“Rhuari and Finn were guessing what colours they were going to be hit with next while running around the course and they loved being covered head to toe in paint.”

There will be more fun for all the family as a second Colour Run is held at the ON-X between noon and 2pm on Wednesday, July 21.

The free Get Into Summer activities, which include multi-sports taster sessions, as well as disability sports clubs, are being funded by the Scottish Government and take place until Friday, August 13.

A new summer challenge to travel the 13,503km distance from Renfrewshire to Tokyo, where the Olympic Games are being held later this month, has also been launched.

The Trek to Tokyo idea sees children and grown-ups running, walking, swimming and pedalling as many kilometres as possible without leaving the country, with the aim of combining their distances to reach the target.

Fiona Watson, Renfrewshire Leisure’s sport and health services manager, said: “Everyone loves taking part in a Colour Run.

“We encourage everyone to wear a white T-shirt when they take part and, by the end, they will all look like a rainbow.”
