A man was arrested by police at the weekend after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash.

The 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody following an incident in Brookfield at around 8.30pm on Friday.

It is claimed that he drove a car into a wall in Bridge of Weir Road and then ran off.

Police found a younger man in the passenger seat who had suffered serious injuries.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, and detained for treatment.

An arrest was made near the crash scene a short time later, with the suspect allegedly failing a roadside breath test.

He was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

Both the car and the wall were badly damaged in the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "At around 8.30pm, we received reports of a vehicle having lost control and crashing into a wall.

"Members of the public and passing motorists had stopped to assist and called the emergency services.

"The driver of the vehicle made off. Police, with the assistance of a dog unit, finally traced the male.

"He was subsequently arrested for a number of road traffic charges, including allegedly being unfit to drive through drink.

"There was a passenger in the car who suffered a number of serious facial injuries. Members of the public helped him get out the vehicle."

Police are keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of the crash.

Witnesses and anyone else with information is asked to call 101 and quote incident number KB02880721.
