Police are investigating after a 64-year-old woman was hurt in a "nasty and unprovoked attack" in Linwood.

The victim sustained injuries to her body and needed medical treatment after she was assaulted by a male suspect at an address in Bridge of Weir Road.

The incident took place at around 9.30pm on Sunday night.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, deputy area commander for Renfrewshire, told the Gazette: “We are very keen to trace the individual responsible for this nasty and unprovoked attack as this kind of behaviour will simply not be tolerated in our community.

“If you witnessed the incident then we would like to hear from you as soon as possible.

“We believe the suspect was a white man in his early 40s.”
