Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim has revealed Saturday’s victory over Maybole was his favourite game of the season so far...even though his players failed to reach the high standards he has set.

The Keanie Park team secured a 1-0 win to cap off a week they hope can kick-start their season after picking up nine points from nine, with that victory arriving on the back of the previous weekend’s success at Lesmahagow and a midweek triumph against Bellshill Athletic.

McKim said he was pleased to see his troops win ugly at the weekend.

He told Gazette Sport: “The first two games of the season didn’t go quite how we had seen them going but, in the last three games, we’ve stepped it up and won all three.

“We’re just looking to carry that on and keep the momentum going.

“Saturday was the most pleasing win for me so far because we didn’t play well at all but we showed the other side that we showed last year, where we were able to grind it out and keep a clean sheet.

“Only having two or three days in between games has been hard because you’re having to change the team and you’re asking guys to perform again and again.”

Burgh had to come from behind against Bellshill but did so in impressive fashion at Keanie Park as Paul Stewart, Ricky McArthur and Kieran Brady all found the net.

Stewart and Brady capped off flowing team moves, with McArthur’s strike an acrobatic volley from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner.

Saturday’s winner from Nathan Marriot was just as impressive as the three scored during the week and McKim has been delighted by the quality of goals.

He added: “The last four we’ve scored are four of the best goals I’ve seen since I joined Johnstone Burgh.

“It’s brilliant for people who are coming to watch, it’s that quality that brings people back through the doors, so all credit to the players.

“A lot of people spoke about Gordon Meredith, with the individual skill in the build-up to our goal against Maybole before Nathan’s finish, and Ricky’s goal against Bellshill but the other two goals were brilliant team goals.

“It’s the way we want to play. You’d take winning in any manner but it makes it a bit more entertaining for the supporters and the goals are getting a bit of appreciation on social media.”
