A CHARITY festival celebrating grunge music is set to take place in Glasgow next month.

GrungeFest, which will feature 17 alternative rock bands, will be held at the Classic Grand on Saturday, October 9.

The Seattle-inspired acts will play from 4pm to midnight, with all proceeds from the event will going to Diabetes Scotland and Diabetes UK.

The event was created by Colin Rodger and Martin Higgins who run the Facebook group Sounds of Seattle, celebrating the grunge bands of the early 90s such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden.

The two music fans have been planning the event since mid-2019 and it was originally set to take place last August.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers were forced to push back GrungeFest again to August 2021, with the event finally receiving the go-ahead to take place next month.

The group has raised more than £40,000 for diabetes charities in six years – but this is its most ambitious project to date.

Tribute acts including Foo Fighterz Scotland, Pearl Scam and the Lost Dogs are on the bill, alongside bands playing their own material like Metatone, Battalion of Flies and God’s Zoo.

Tickets for the event are available HERE.
