THERE was a silver lining for bowlers in Renfrew as they competed for prizes earlier this month.

Matches were keenly contested at Robertson Park Bowling Club on September 11 and 12.

Caroline Taylor and Sam McIntyre won the Willie Patterson Memorial Trophy on the first day, with Willie's widow Christine congratulating the couple on their achievement.

On the second day, bowling club president Bernard Cullen commended Janette Duncan, who came from behind to squeeze out Jean Cullen in a tense Millennium Trophy Final.

Janette's victory marks the fourth time she has won the trophy.

Jim Coyle, secretary of Robertson Park Bowling Club, said: "It was a very good event and the Millennium Trophy Final was very exciting.

"It went to the very last end, as the score was 20-20, and Janette just pinched the trophy."

Bowlers are also inviting locals to a coffee morning at the club next week to raise funds for lifesaving equipment.

The event will take place on Wednesday, September 29, from 10am until 1pm.

Funds raised from the coffee morning will be used to purchase a defibrillator that will be placed outside the building.

Jim added: "The bowling club is locked up for six months of the year, so we thought it would be better to position it outside for all the public to use."
