POLICE investigating a serious road accident in Renfrew that left an eight-year-old schoolboy in need of hospital treatment have appealed for information.

Officers have carried out extensive enquiries since the incident took place outside the main entrance to Braehead shopping centre, off King’s Inch Road, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, August 11.

However, they have yet to trace the occupants of a white car that struck the child as he was crossing the road with his grandmother.

Police said one of the car's passengers got out to help the boy before getting back into the vehicle, which was then driven away.

Emergency services were not contacted at the time but the boy was taken to hospital by his family that evening.

Police were alerted the next day.

Officers have been studying CCTV footage in an effort to identify the white car, which they believe is a Nissan Qashqai.

Constable Kelly Ferris said: "We really need to speak to the occupants of the white car. They may not realise the young boy was injured as a result of this incident and I would appeal to them to contact us.

"I would also ask motorists with dashcams and any members of the public who may have filmed the incident to get in touch. Their footage could aid us in identifying the vehicle and the driver."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers on 101, quoting incident number 1500 of August 12.
