THE traffic-stopping mural, Gods of The Sea, on the public toilets in Southbourne has been completed.

Bournemouth artist Krishna Malla, aka Tech Moon, began working on the piece last month and put the finishing touches to the impressive piece on Friday, October 15.

The four-sided mural on Southbourne Crossroads public toilets depicts a giant 3D fish tank full of jellyfish, coral, whales and dolphins.

Inspired by the Greek Gods, the mural features Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite and their son Triton along with a sunken shipwreck that can be viewed from different perspectives as you walk around the toilet block.

On finishing the mural, Krishna said: “I’m really happy it’s actually finished and just knowing that I can rest is a great thing.

“It’s come out really well - it was a really ambitious project because there’s so much detail in this and it was a bit of a mountain to climb to get everything that I wanted to and to get it looking as good as I wanted.

“I’m really happy with the result and the feedback has just kept getting better and better as the weeks have gone on.”

The mural was commissioned and funded by Ricky Knowlton and Fiona McArthur from Ricky’s fish and chip shop in Belle Vue Road, Southbourne.

Krishna said: “Ricky has just been brilliant to work for, he and Fiona are such good people and for them to give back to the community like this really means a lot - it’s a big project and they got the defibrillator too.”

Giving something back to the community is at the heart of the couple’s aim with the Southbourne Crossroads Public Toilets - they also fitted it with a defibrillator at the start of the month.

Ricky’s was recently awarded funding as part of the Bounce Back Grants through BCP Council and have chosen to repay and celebrate the community of Southbourne with a portion of the money - the council also granted permission for the mural on the toilets.
